Myself(Izzy84075), Arias, Flannel and Oronar watched Repo: The Genetic Opera tonight. Rather than doing posts individually, we're going to try combining them into one big post. I'll start things off. Assume there will be spoilers.
Izzy:
We have a Synchtube channel that we use for music for our group sometimes, and a few days ago Arias added two of the Repo songs to it(Zydrate Anatomy and another one that I can't remember the name of). Now, I had heard of Repo a while before, and had gotten it in preparation to watch it, but never got around to it(As happens quite often). And then Zydrate Anatomy got stuck in my head, and I wanted context for it.
So now we've seen it, and I loved it. I've seen a lot of bad movies lately, and this was not one of them. I can't say any one part of it sticks out in particular as being my favorite part, but there's only one 'bad' part that I can think of. After Shiloh is introduced and they go through a few other scenes, they go back to Shiloh and she's getting a phone call out of nowhere from Rotti. Now, while this could have been done intentionally, as most of the movie follows Shiloh's view, it's the only major 'surprise' in the movie, which is kinda weird.
Most of the music is great(Which is good, 'cus, y'know, opera), with the exception of Rotti's stuff, which is mostly spoken, and I don't feel it fits very well. Though his spoken stuff is much better than his actual singing parts, which is kinda a plus, I guess? The video itself, from what I could see of it(We had a, shall we say, subpar video quality in many scenes), was good, and the acting was right there with it.
Of all the characters, I think it's a tie between Nathan and Graverobber as to which one was my favorite. Graverobber's got a great singing voice, but I love Nathan's Repoman voice.
All in all, a great movie, and one I'll probably get next time my local friends get together for a movie. If you like musicals, this one's probably right up your alley.
I'd go into more detail, but I'm already running a bit long, if we want to have all of us in here.
Arias:
I saw this movie a year or so ago and thought it was great. Never thought of downloading the sound track or watching it again since then until a month or so ago. Izzy and Flannel showed interest and Oro was bored enough to watch with us.
After livestream stopped being crappy and decided to work (Took us 2 and a half hours to watch a 90 minute movie) we finally got into the movie. My favorite character of the movie is Graverobber, hands down. Not only does he have an amazing voice, but he also wrote most of the songs for the movie, did all the comic drawings for it and produced it. This man is oozing with talent.
The best part of the movie for me was when Nathan goes into Repo mode in his basement and starts using the guy he just ripped organs out of as a puppet. I had completely forgotten that part and it caught me off guard. Speaking of their basement, that house has far too many secret doors and chambers. They all lead to the main hallway too, you would think Shiloh or Nathan would have stumbled upon the other's already.
About a quarter way through the movie Flannel noted that Amber Sweet looked "like Paris Hilton, but hot." and at the end we see her name scroll by in the credits. That was a shocker. We also found that Shiloh was the girl from Spy Kids. Dramatic differences in movie choices there.
All the music is amazing and it fits the mood of the movie really well, aside from Shiloh's song "Seventeen" which I thought was out of place and the genre didn't fit all that well. Also all of Rotti's singing was horrible. He was bad and should feel bad.
Overall I am glad that the movie held up and didn't turn out to be one of those things where I think "Why the hell did I enjoy this?". I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes music, blood, guts and laughing.
Oro:
"I ain't posting on your shitty little blog."
Flannel:
So, I think the other two covered most of this. REPO! The Genetic Opera is an amazing film. Best character? Toss up between the Repo Man and Graverobber. Repo Man made me happy because he was creepy as hell and enjoyed his job WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much, but Graverobber was just this awesome combination of talent, creep, and charisma that just draws you in. He served as a narrator of sorts, starting and ending the movie. He was involved in some major scenes, though, so he went beyond your basic narration.
Also, Shiloh was Alexa Vega from Spy Kids. It was amazing to find out. Also kinda cool to find out that Paris Hilton CAN act and CAN kinda sing. I was rather impressed.
All in all, I really enjoyed this film. I would recommend to everyone, especially the weak of stomach. Mainly because I have a streak of schadenfruede. The music was fantastic, the acting was magnificent, and the world was perfect. I saw on Wiki that they are considering a sequel or a prequel. I think a prequel would be phenomenal. I would love to see the story of Shiloh's Mother.
So yeah. Go watch this. Go watch it hard. So hard. SHAMEFULLY HARD. Just do it.
Also, Paris Hilton's face fell off. And she auctioned it. And one of her brothers killed the top 3 bidders. The other brother won the auction, and now wears her face. Ah, incestuous face love.
Izzy:
So yeah. We all enjoyed it, and, I think, would recommend it. Kinda fun doing this joint post thing, too.

Are you enjoying the Time of Eve?
I sure am.
I suppose it is my turn to make a new blog post. A few of us watched this last night so here goes:
Time of Eve, Eve no Jikan, whatever you want to call it, is a movie (or a very short six episode ONA series, but the movie has more content) about an Earth in the not-to-distant future where androids are commonplace. All of these androids follow asimov's three laws of robotics, and most people take them for granted. The main character finds data in his household android that leads him to The Time of Eve, a cafe where androids and humans are treated as equals.
Without trying to spoil anything, I will say that I found the movie quite enjoyable. The characters seem to actually have, well, character. The movie seems to have a bit of just about everything, and if you enjoy science fiction, androids, and/or ethics, I think you would find it quite enjoyable too.
Anyways, that is it for me in this post. I don't really feel like writing a bunch right now, but I knew if I put this off I'd never do it.

Crabs, snails and lesbians! Oh, my!
It is time for another blog post already. I finished Bakemonogatari early this morning and since everyone else watched it months ago this will be another review with just me.
SPOILERS
Lets start with Araragi. He is the main character and white knight extraordinaire. He runs to anyone's side whether they ask for help or not and is 1/10th vampire, because of this he heals extremely quick. Throughout the series he gets his arms, legs, wrists and pretty much everything broken and mangled, but manages to heal it by the next scene. It is hard for me to get a firm hold on his personality. At some points he seems to be a perverted creeper and at others he freaks out at even the thought of a girls body. At the end of the second arc he starts dating Hitagi Senjogahara.
Senjogahara is a girl with a rather strange problem. She is weightless. She is extremely anti-social because she does not want people finding out her secret. It is to the point to where when people do find it out she threatens then with an entire stores worth of office supplies. She ends up stapling the inside of Araragi's cheek when he finds out, but he heals it within a few seconds. After he helps her cure her weight she decides that she loves him.
Mayoi Hachikuji is a cute little girl who is also a aberration. She follows Araragi around at random points in the series and is repeatedly beat up or felt up by him. At one point in the series he literally sneaks up on her and starts rooting his hands around in her shirt. Every time they are together she ends up biting his fingers for one reason or another. She has a habit of stuttering Araragi's name in different ways each time. She eventually says it right just to say she spelt it wrong in her head. Despite their constant fighting Araragi and her appear to be friends.
Suruga Kanbaru is a strange girl. She is extremely athletic to the point of being able to run along side cars with ease. One of her arms is bandaged to cover the fact that it is a monkey's arm. This arm gives her super strength and was able to take control of her before Araragi helped her dispell it. She is also a lesbian, which seems to be even more strange then her monkey arm. The scene where she reveals all of that goes exactly like this

There is also a guy named Meme Oshino who can defeat all sorts of aberrations with little problem. He has a girl named Shinobu staying with him who is responsible for Araragi being part vampire. She never talks through the entire series, just sits there and stares at people. When she isn't sitting and staring she is helping Araragi defeat a cat aberration who has taken over his friend's body. At the end of the series she stops living with Oshino and starts living inside Araragi's shadow.
Tsubasa Hanekawa is the girl whose body has been taken over by the cat aberration. Normally she is a good girl with good grades. Class representative and knows a great deal in many different subjects. When taken over her hair turns white, she grows cat ears and can move and jump extremely quickly. She also has the ability to drain people's energy by touch. Both of the times she is taken over Shinobu attacks her and drains her of all the energy she has, forcing her back into Hanekawa's body.
There were a few other characters, but these were my favorite and I don't feel like writing up something for all of them. Overall I loved the show. I am looking forward to the prequel movie they're coming out with.

Shinji 2.0
So we watched Rebuild the last few days, the first two. We were going to watch it over the weekend, with it supposedly being doomsday and all, but it didn't happen. Ah well. There will be spoilers ahead.
Anyways, I've seen Rebuild before, and the original Evangelion a few times a long while ago, and I've read some crazy fanfics based on it(Shinji and Warhammer 40k, NGE: Nobody Dies, and probably a few others that I've forgotten), so I'm rather well-versed in Eva.
I love how Rebuild is simultaneously a sequel and a reboot. If you're not paying a whole lot of attention, it's a reboot, but if you look closely at it, it's a sequel.
We were watching the dub, and while most of the voices were good(And a lot of them the same as from the original NGE), Rei's voice bothered me. I know she's not as emotionless as people tend to make her out to be, but the voice they chose for her doesn't seem monotone enough to me. Pretty much everybody else's voice fit, though. Kensuke(I keep wanting to say Kunikida, but that's a different show completely...)'s might be a bit high, but other than that, it fit.
Mari seems like a bit of an asspull(Maybe a Mary Sue, the definition is difficult to work with). Seemingly the first time she pilots an Eva, no SR problems, excessively happy, kills an Angel right off, no problem. She blows up her Eva, but whatever. Then she disappears for a while, drops in on the roof of Shinji's school, disappears again, steals Unit 02(I think it was 02), goes BEAST MODO, and rips and tears her way through AT fields, pulls Shinji out of his Heroic BSOD, then disappears again after Unit 02 shuts down. Maybe she'll be more involved in Rebuilds 3 and 4, but for now she's just a sign that something crazy is about to happen and the writers need someone saved.
And then there's the Asuka and Rei thing. They make their competition for Shinji much more pronounced in Rebuild, with Rei attempting to cook for Shinji, then Asuka playing catchup. Be interesting to see what they do on this front, with how squished in everything is for the movie format. Also, whether Israfel makes a return. They've already done Sahaquiel, but Rebuild has also changed the numbering(Sahaquiel used to be the 10th Angel, but is now the 8th), so they might have rearranged them a bit. Israfel pushed along Asuka and Shinji, I think, be interesting to see how they'd handle it with Rei's more active pursuance of Shinji.
SPEAKING OF REI. They make it more obvious that she's related to the Ikaris in Rebuild, if you're paying attention. First time Shinji's in the hospital, I think, they've got Rei talking to herself, saying her name over and over again. Goes something like "Rei. Rei. Rei. Rei. Ikari. No... Ayanami." I missed this the first time I watched Rebuild. I won't get into /how/ she's related, for Flannel's sake, and in hopes that they'll go into it more in the other Rebuild movies.
Anyways. That's the majority of my thoughts, I think -- wait a second. Shinji. Mentioned him in the title and almost nowhere else? That's not right.
Shinji mans up in Rebuild. Takes him a while, but the last few scenes in Rebuild 2... He is a challenger to Ramiel's holding of the "shit fucker upper" title. Hope he doesn't chicken out in 3/4 again.
I /think/ that's everything now. We'll see.

I saw Eva, but where's Wall-E?
So, I'm back. Hi. How are you? How's the wife?
Dead?
I'm sorry....
Anyways....
So, the latest thing we've been watching is called Rebuild of Evangelion. I'm sure it has a better ring to it in Japanese...but that's beside the point.
What I was told when we started watching was that it involved giant robots and angsty teens. I was like: THIS. SOUNDS. AWESOME.
Then we started it. I was/am so confused. ANGELS? EVAS? LILLITH? ADAM? WEIRD JAPANESE NAMES I CAN'T REMEMBER?? Except for Rei. I remember her name. I don't know why.
Then it got interesting.
SPOILERSSS
EVAs aren't actually robots. They're like, these giant beings. Filled with Tang. It's...strange. They throw an angsty teen into these...things...and let them control them. Why not? WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
A lot of things...but we'll get to that later.
The MC, SHINJI (remembered this halfway through the paragraph), is called in to pilot an EVA by his dad, who is a bit of a douche, but he's basically eliminated all emotion from himself in order to be able to make the tough decisions with planet destroying Angels. At least, that's my theory.
Now, Rei seems to have no emotion whatsoever, but I think she suppresses it because she's seen so many horrors. I'll probably get called out for that one, but whatever.
So all these angels are coming to Earth and basically just destroying everything trying to get to Lillith for some reason. Shinji cracks under the pressure and just starts doing whatever he's told to do, and Rei just kinda...is.
OH. Real quick. The penguin is awesome.
Ok, back to story. So, Giant robots that aren't robots, Every big nation has 3 EVAs, and the US kinda just destroys one of theirs.
Then this other EVA pilot from Germany drops in and is a TOTAL bitch. She ends up being a HUGE tsundere and likes Shinji. Doesn't last for long though. She gets trapped by her EVA, which turns into an Angel, and then when Shinji tries to stop her, he won't do it, because he cares about her. His dad then turns on a dummy system that destroys her. Just totally destroys her. Shinji is PISSED. He gets on top of the headquarters and starts STOMPING AND STOMPING and freaking out on his dad...until they turn the power off to his EVA.
Shinji gets so upset that they killed German girl that he decides to leave the program. This is short-lived, however, because angels blow a giant hole in the headquarters of NERV and Shinji gets back in to pilot his EVA. Yada yada yada, he stops the angel.
So far, I'm really enjoying this series. I need to go back and watch the original so I can see what's going on, but other than that, I'm impressed. Bravo, Gainax. Keep on bouncin'.
Dead?

Shuffle VN
Seeing how I was the only one to play and finish the Shuffle visual novel, this post will be just be. This post will obviously contain spoilers.
Just going to get this out of the way at the start. I liked the anime better. The visual novel had no subtly. While the anime you had twists the visual novel just came straight out at the start and told you. Going in the order I played them.
Asa Path: The Asa path was pretty much exactly like the anime, which didn't surprise me considering the anime WAS that route. The VN didn't even try to hide the fact Asa was the child of a homunculus. We find out within the first hour of playing. The rest of the VN is you hanging out with Asa and ignoring the fact that, if she doesn't use her magic she'll die. She is just a ticking time bomb of magical energy, slowly building up and sooner or later she won't be able to contain it all. So, the only logical choice is to attempt to kill yourself and force her to use it, right?
Kaede Path: I thought this would be my favorite path, because I am a big fan of yanderes. Lo and behold my surprise when it turns out that the yandere was ONLY in the anime. In the VN she keeps her "I'm happy, if Rin is happy" attitude to the very end, which is sweet and all, but it doesn't hold a candle to a good yandere. They go through the big revelation of her hating Rin's guts when they were young and now she devotes her entire life to him to make up for it. She is much more open about it in the VN though, she says multiple times that her reason for living is to serve Rin.
Sia Path: Her path was a bit more fun than I thought it would be. Because the path was solely dedicated to her instead of just cramming her story into the Asa path, like the anime did,we got to see more of her split personality. She basically had two paths to herself because of this. You could either have Sia or Reverse Sia, who is named Kikyou at the end. The ending was sadder then I expect with Sia going and completely killing her personality off so Kikyou could be with Rin, she does this no matter which personality you go with. Kikyou feels bad about it and basically force her to see she is wrong and now they switch personalities back and forth when they're with Rin so they both can be with him. Wow that sounds a lot worse when I summarize it then it actually was.
Nerine Path: Everything in her path was also in the Anime. Her path is shorter then the other girls and didn't really interest me that much. Her path was a giant sob story about how she absorbed a clone her father made of her to keep her life and how she never actually met Rin when they were little. Her clone had gone to the world of the humans, met Rin and talked about him to Nerine none-stop. After being absorbed into her she gained all the memories and apparently a great singing voice. The end is that Rin tells her that even if she only came here to fulfill her clone's dream he still loved her for her. She realizes that she can be happy without feeling guilty about her life and lives happily ever after.
Primula Path: I liked this path and thought it would have been better without the H-scenes. They shoved every fetish they could find into her path. She was a loli, dressed up as a maid/catgirl, wore that one piece swimsuit Japanese kids seem to wear for school, she called him her brother and they even had her pee herself in the middle of an H-scene. I'm ignoring that last one. At one point Rin breaks his arm saving a cat from a tree and Primula uses her magic to heal him. It is found out that because she is shown to have mastered her magic she now has to go back to the world of the demons and can never come back. Instead of letting Rin find a way to get her to stay she decides to wipe his mind of everything about her. She does this while they're having sex. I found it hilarious that in the middle of the H-scene Rin starts screaming "I can't remember your name!" By morning his mind is completely blank of all things Primula and he goes about his daily life feeling as if something is missing. Rin's friends manage to convince the kings to a game and if they win Primula gets to stay. The game was that if Rin remembered Primula on his own before she left then she would get to stay with him. Because PLOT MAGIC he did, they had a nice happy hug and she stayed. All because the power of love.
All the paths followed the same exact script. Walk in on them half naked, H-scene, date, some twist, H-scene, solution, end. I still say I like the anime better, but that does not mean the VN wasn't good. It is worth it, if you're bored and have nothing to do for a few hours. The first play through will take about 10-15 hours, but after that you can skip read text and cut out no less then a third of the game.
I think I'll play Swan Song next.
Just going to get this out of the way at the start. I liked the anime better. The visual novel had no subtly. While the anime you had twists the visual novel just came straight out at the start and told you. Going in the order I played them.

A legit post, what?
So...yeah. I'm Flannel Man, but most times I just go by Flannel. Leads to less confusion, and it's easier to say. I'm 19, and from Washington state. I'm a recent member of the group, joining after I wanted to watch Resident_MAN rage out at a Portal 2 video. I just never really left. I know Izzy from a former job. He's a cool dude.
Anyways, I'm not usually much of an anime watcher, although I do enjoy the occasional bad anime from the 80's and 90's. They sorta got me into it, though, with Psychic Detective Yakumo. I kinda like the overreaching story arc that connects all the episodes, and I'm really excited to see where it leads. Episode to episode is good and all, but I like an underlying story.
So, I guess that's it, for now. I don't really have much left to say. I guess I'll leave you with this....
Petroleum is the wrong kind of jelly for sandwiches.

Arial's for Squares
Such a small selection of fonts, though. Whatever.
Anyways, I'm Emo. Don't ask, that's just who I am anymore. I'm representin' Arizona, 19 years old as of this post.
Now the real question is, the heck am I supposed to do here? I suppose I could talk about the shows I'm watching, but there's probably gonna be a lot of overlap over the course of this thing...ah well. We'll worry about these things as they come. Uh, Spoiler Warning, I guess.
So, first up would be, I guess, Shuffle!. It's got a bit of everything for everyone. You got your emotionless sort, your energetic girl who's also coupled with the sickly one, the fly on the wall with an identity crisis, and TWO varieties of crazy. And then there's the angry teacher, but her role rather confuses me. Then there's the main character, dimwitted as ever for these types of shows. Other than the obvious, though, he can do pretty much anything. Making boats, taking abuse, causing magical explosions (count: 2), mutilating himself, the list goes on.
Everyone in it's supposed to have their own route or something, if you were to refer to the VN, but they get shafted in the show. He stops just short of harem ending, choosing to go for - well, you can read the other post, or elsewhere, for that.
Right, moving along. Next would be Psychic Detective Yakumo. Only show of three in progress I have not already seen before. As Malus said, it could have done much better for itself without the overreaching plot. It could have been cool like Mushi-Shi, with all the little plots per episode, but it just had to keep splicing in antagonist clips at the end of the episodes. It's still rather interesting, though, so I plan to watch it through. Only like 13 episodes, anyways.
In any case, it's better than that other spirit show, Corpse Princess. It could have been cool, but it couldn't establish an interesting plot or anything. It had no hook.
Finally, there's Speed Grapher. Guy gets a sweet camera, and takes pictures like nobody's business. Then the guy who can buy anything gets tangled and things go downhill for everyone. So yeah, that's it for now. Quite a lot. Only 8 letters, though, could be worse. Whatever, I'm out.

A Green Haired Girl is Fine Too
Hiya, I'm Arias.
I'm from Oregon and was talking with Izzy about all those bad review blogs/commentaries people do and thought "We can do that!" and so here we are.
Shuffle Spoilers Ahead
Me and Izzy were watching Shuffle, I wanted to watch it because I had heard of delicious yandere in it. I was severely disappointed.
Kaede totally caved after ONE yandere moment into "Oh, I'm so sorry! I feel so bad! Boo Hoo!" there wasn't even any bloodshed! I was expecting her to rip and tear her way to the top of the Rin Girlfriend list.
It is rare for me to turn down yandere for something else, but for some strange reason Asa caught my eye. I started thinking about it and I noticed that every green haired anime girl I saw was awesome. She was this energetic lightning ball of fun and emotion that never seemed to stop. You know, until she collapses every 4 episodes. A nice trade, if you ask me.
Primula was your run-of-the-mill expressionless loli. She was a little girl with white hair and didn't show much emotion at all. Where have I seen that before?

Hmm, no clue. Must be seeing things.
The princesses...
I honestly never even learned their names. They didn't interest me at all. The only bit that made me look up was when the goddess had her split personality come out. That was fun for the one episode they did it and then acted like nothing happened.
I am now playing the visual novel and I am hoping for more yandere. I guess we'll see.
Looking forward to see what I come up with for my posts here.

'lo. I'm Izzy. Guy from Washington, 19(I think? I'm bad at my own age.), currently unemployed, watcher of anime, reader of sci-fi.
So yeah. We have a blog now. Nobody's entirely sure how to go about this, but the idea came about while Arias and I(Emo might have been there, too?) were watching Shuffle. Started out as wanting to recording our commentary and uploading it somewhere, but nobody had bandwidth or storage for it, so audio and video were out. So we tried a blog on my server. But then we realized that images were going to run into the bandwidth problem again. So now, here we are on Blogspot. Yep.
Anyways! Shuffle commentary! SPOILERS AHEAD!
The entire time through, I was saying that I couldn't see anything except Kaede or harem route working. And then Kaede ended up wimping out of her yandere side. So we got Asa route. Which I don't really have a problem with, but I didn't see it coming. Also, Primula was just poking Kaede closer and closer to the yandere side, which was fun.
SPOILERS END.
So yeah. New blog. Introduction. Shuffle commentary. I think I'm done here.

FIRST POST
Just because I wanted to beat out Arias! :D
EDIT: Somehow, even though I clicked the buttons first, and was originally posted first, I was beaten out by Malus. THIS MEANS CARNAGE ANGELS. Not really, but I'm a little disappointed.

First Post! Great Success!
Well, none of us are really quite sure what to do for a first post, but I guess this is better than nothing.
Who are we?
A bunch of nobodies who met through various message boards and starting hanging out on an IRC channel and ultimately doing nothing of significance.
What do we plan to blog about?
I have no idea! We like to stream movies and anime occasionally, so I guess we could talk about those as we watch them. Maybe our impressions of the movie, episode or series. I'm not quite sure. I suppose that will be something for us to discuss.
With that said, I guess I'll start that now, as an experimental thing:
We're currently watching Psychic Detective Yakumo. It is about some stereo-typical "mysterious" type character who can see ghosts, and he is a junior detective. While I don't dislike it, I feel like it would be better if it were entirely episodic and there was not some overarching plot hanging in the background. We're only a few episodes in, currently, so maybe I won't see it as a bad thing the further in we get.
Anyways, I think I've written enough. I suppose I'll let the others have their chance.
